Photo Gallery of Palace el-Badi from Saadian king Ahmad al-Mansur, built in 1578 in Marrakesh Morocco.
The Palace el-Badi is one of the most interesting monuments to visit in Marrakesh. It consists of the leftovers of a brilliant palace built in 1578 by the Saadian king Ahmad al-Mansur.
The original building is thought to have consisted of 360 rooms, a courtyard of 135 m by 110 m and a pool of 90 m by 20 m, richly decorated with Italian marbles and large amounts of gold imported from Sudan.
This magnificent palace took something like 25 years to build and was torn apart by the Alaouite Sultan Mawlay Ismail who used the materials to garnish his own palace in the city of Meknes. The plan of the palace was influenced by the Alhambra in Granada, south Spain.
