Personal mobile television (TMP), a service that enables users of cell phone to receive free of charge television programs, has been officially launched in Morocco, the National Radio and Television Broadcasting Corporation (SNRT) said on Monday.
In Morocco, a country whose population is estimated at 30 million inhabitants, more than 20 million people have subscribed to the mobile phone.
According to an SNRT communiqué, issued on its Internet site, portable telephone users can thus monitor the two channels “Al Oula” and “2M” and the three thematics “Arryadia”, “Arabia” and “Assadissa”.
Thanks to this service, users can receive on the screens of the cell phones the programs of these channels in real time and even if they are mobile.
The main cities of Morocco will be covered by this service by the end of 2008 before it is generalized to the other regions covered by the Land Digital Television (TNT), the same source highlighted, adding that the analogue system would be abandoned in 2015.
With TNT, Moroccan TV viewers have free access to the bouquet of the channels. Its reception necessitates a UHF antenna, an antenna cable or TNT receptor or Combo receptor (satellite and TNT reception).
TNT deployment, which currently covers more than half the population, started in February 2007.
It must be noted that Morocco is the second African country to launch the personal mobile television after South Africa where this product is to be paid for.
