Morocco and Indonesia promoting bilateral cooperation for trade and investment

The first session of the Moroccan-Indonesian high joint commission wrapped up Sunday in Rabat with the two countries voicing firm to give a new impetus to bilateral cooperation, especially through boosting trade exchanges, state MAP news agency reported.

Morocco and Indonesia affirmed to step up efforts with a view of promoting bilateral cooperation by taking account of the large potential of the two countries in terms of trade and investments, MAP said, quoting a joint release issued at the end of the one-day commission meeting.

In order to bolster trade exchanges, the two countries signed an agreement on banning double taxation and fighting tax evasion.

During the meeting, co-chaired by the Moroccan Foreign Minister Taieb Fassi Fihri and his Indonesian peer Nur Hassan Wirajuda, the parties also agreed to organize missions for businessmen so as to explore trade potentials in both countries.

Officials from the two states said they would provide the legal framework and the basis for a solid partnership in diverse fields especially on the economic, technical and technological levels.

At the end of the meeting , two memorandums of understanding (MoU) were inked. The first provides for the creation of a joint commission tasked with facilitating consultation and cooperation, and ensuring the implementation of joint decisions.

Under the second MoU, Morocco and Indonesia commit to set up a mechanism for permanent and regular consultation between their foreign ministries in order to examine aspects of bilateral relations, and exchange viewpoints on international issues of common interest, mainly in terms of political, economic, commercial, scientific, technical and cultural issues.
